On May 4, 2026, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed HB5374 into Law. Now PA 26-33, this law removes the exclusion of athletic prosthetics from health insurance coverage. Effective January 1, 2027, health insurance plans in Connecticut will cover prosthetic devices that are specifically for athletic purposes. There are some exclusions to the law (which apply to all CT state laws that govern insurance), including companies and organizations that are self-insured.
Next year, we will work toward the inclusion of orthotic devices in this law, so that people with limb difference can also get health insurance coverage for the activity-specific orthotic devices they need.
